Snuggle next to the lower part of Nha Trang river (Cai River) about 260 kilometers north of Phan Thiet and 35 minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Nha Trang earns its popularity amongst Vietnam's most visited tourist area partly on merit and the other half on owing to its prime location.
The once power Nguyen Dynasty wrested this region from the local Champa people in the mid 1700's century, the mesmerizing Po Nagar Cham towers had already stood, stacked and in column impressively on a hillside next to teh Cai River for over seven-hundred-years. This treasure still remains one of if not Nha Trang's most famous image. However, it is the islands and miles of coastline that brings visitors flocking to this small town atmosphere city. Some consider Nha Trang as the finest municipal beach in all of Vietnam with its great ocean diving, island day trips or country side exploration. The only bad part about Nha Trang is its raining season during November each year. Those that can hold out through the November rain are meet with a festive February Tet festival, Vietnam biggest seven day celebration.

People that have just arrived in Nha Trang through a flight on Vietnam Airline, train or bus head straight to the beach where they can rent a beach chair and enjoy a cocktail or other fruit drinks.
The beach consist of six kilometers of soft sand and a bay surrounded by lush mountains. The Cho Dam market is a popular shopping area for tourist and locals to enjoy lunch, dinner or do some casual shopping. The Pasteur Institute museum toward the northern part of the beachfront Tran Phu street, houses the Alexandre Yersin Museum and research facilities. A Swiss-French scientist who settled in Nha Trang in 1893 became a local hero through his great achievement of discovering plague bacillus. His educational work in sanitation and agriculture, and his ability to predict typhoons save the lives of fishermen and numerous local residents. Yersin is honored in Nha Trang sometime more than it's local King. A huge White Budda rest on a hillside looking down on Nha Trang. The Long Son Pagoda located in the northwest of the city is one of Nha Trang major landmark. The Budda can be seen from around the local area. Crafted in 1963 to symbolize the Buddhist struggle against the repressive Diem regime, the Longson Pagoda is build around a lotus shaped pedestal that has carving images of the monks and nuns who set fire to themselves in protest.
